The United States Geological Survey (USGS) and the Philadelphia Water Department (PWD) will be conducting field tests in the Tacony Creek. The USGS and PWD have been monitoring the water quality of the Tacony and Frankford Creek since 2001. Together, the team will be performing a series of field tests that test aeration capabilities of the creek and velocity of flows. Components of this study will require the introduction of a harmless red dye into the creek. This dye will disappear at the conclusion of the study. Park users will see the creek turn “red” as testing progresses.
