June 6: Arts in the Park at High School Park
On Sunday, June 6, 2010, the biggest event for the Friends of High School Park, Arts in the Park, will take place. Each year thousands of people enjoy this celebration of art, entertainment and family fun in a lovely outdoor setting. VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED! If you can’t volunteer, please make a contribution to our Bake Sale, it is one of High School Park’s biggest fundraisers. Rain date: Sunday, June 13th.

June 17: AWRA Presents: Nutrient Trading in Pennsylvania
AWRA presents Featured Speaker: Ann Smith Roda, Program Analyst Office of Water Management, PA Department of Environmental Protection Headquarters, Harrisburg, PA. Ms. Roda will discuss the basic concepts underlying the relatively new nutrient trading program established by PADEP so to provide market incentives for innovative technology in wastewater treatment and nonpoint source pollution abatement mechanisms. She will also highlight some upcoming enhancements to the program through a new rulemaking. An update will be provided on the Chesapeake Bay Watershed Implementation Plan development for PADEP and the areas where the trading program could play a significant role in the future.

May 1: 2010 PA Watershed Summit: What’s Next for Water Quality in PA?
Please join the Foundation for Pennsylvania Watersheds, the PA Department of Environmental Protection, and the Bayer Center for Nonprofit Management at Robert Morris University in promoting the health and future of Pennsylvania’s waterways on Saturday, May 1, 2010. Citizens from all walks of Pennsylvania’s watershed community will have the opportunity to share their expertise and wisdom, as well as learn from peers. Participants will include community watershed organizations, Trout Unlimited chapters, and sportsmen’s groups, along with environmental professionals from conservation districts, government agencies, academia, and consulting firms.

April 10: 2010 Philly Spring Clean-up
This year’s clean-up, entitled “Keep Up the Sweep Up,” will be the start of the City’s sustained effort to eliminate and prevent litter and illegal dumping—permanently. With ongoing strategies of education, enforcement, intense cleaning and beautification, we are committed to making our City and our neighborhoods clean. TTF, the Philadelphia Water Department’s Waterways Restoration Team and the residents of Clearview Street will participate by cleaning up street debris and the space behind the old produce stand at Clearview and Tulpehocken.

April 10: Second Saturday Gardening Series: “Rain Gardens for Homeowners”
This presentation by Antonio Federici will discuss planning and installing a rain garden for a residential yard. We will cover how rain gardens can work for a wide variety of circumstances from city to country properties including information collected for Philadelphia and regional conditions. The talk will detail steps for site planning, (e.g.; choosing the right location for a rain garden), soil and infiltration testing, sizing the garden, plant selection, installation procedures and maintenance. We will also discuss including rain barrels in your design as a component of your garden plans. Find out how to create a fabulous garden, in a city small space or a larger area, while supporting your watershed.
