Last month, I had the chance to visit San Diego and San Francisco. Of course, I checked out the storm drains while I was out there!
San Francisco had a lot of markers similar to the ones we have in Philadelphia, but instead of our “YO! No Dumping!” message, they say “Only rain down the drain.” Although these markers didn’t say where the water drains, I LOVE that instead they have a phone number for reporting pollution. What a great idea!
In Half Moon Bay, I saw painted messages that said, “No Dumping! Drains to Ocean.”
In addition to markers with dolphins that said “No dumping/Drains to Ocean,” San Diego also had a lot of painted messages on their storm drains. Each was painted slightly differently.
I also caught this great bumper sticker on a car in La Jolla, which is part of the City of San Diego Water Conservation Program.
San Diego seems to be doing a lot of work around water issues. The city also published one of my favorite sets of water education activities, Wastewater: Sewage in Your Face!
