Hello! My name is Kerry Banford, and I am a new intern here at TTF. I am a senior at Delaware Valley University majoring in Environmental Science with a specialization in Habitat Management. For as long as I can remember, I have had a deep love for the outdoors and as I’ve gotten older, this has led me to have a great interest in the environment, especially when it comes to ways that I can help do my part to protect and keep it safe.
My university wants us to have experience in our field before graduating, and one of the ways we can accomplish that is through an internship. I knew that I wanted to find an internship where I could get involved in helping out my home area of Philadelphia.
I found out about TTF through my sister, who had attended a World Water Day event at her school and had spoken to a member of the TTF team who was there. When she learned more about TTF and was told that they offer internship positions, she immediately texted me and told me to check them out, which I did, and I knew I had to apply.
It was the perfect fit for what I had been looking for since I wanted to be able to get out in the field and get hands-on experience in something that I am so passionate about. The health of our watersheds and streams is also very important to me, especially since I had just recently completed an environmental course related to that very topic, and when I learned about the community based work that TTF does to protect our waterways, it was a mission I knew I immediately wanted to get behind.
Besides my passion for the environment, I really enjoy hiking and going on walks, basically just exploring different places around me and being outdoors. I also enjoy reading, hanging out with my friends, family, and my many cats, and I am always listening and jamming out to music, my main music taste being classic rock or, well, anything from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s.
Being an active member in environmental issues and making a difference is really important to me, and I am so glad that I have been given the opportunity to do just that. I am excited to be a part of the TTF team and can’t wait to expand my knowledge and learn even more about how to protect our streams, watersheds and overall environment!
