Did you ever witness a unifying experience?
Saturday, October 19th was a memorable day in Juniata Park when more than 60 community members, led by inspirational artist Jay Coreano, painted 20 trash can lids.
Feeling the soft breeze and sun shining at Ferko playground, families celebrated and enjoyed themselves in a relaxing, supportive and welcoming environment. They added bright colors, uplifting words and personal style to the cans. As music played in the background, we also shared stories, ate and laughed together.

“The community paint day was a very creative day with everyone
in unity while caring about the project. ”

“It was an awesome event, it brought families together.
I especially enjoyed watching how my son and his daughters worked together on the lids.
It was very special to see how they bonded and enjoyed each other’s company painting the lids.
It was a beautiful project for the community, especially the children.
I had a blast , it was very rewarding to watch how everyone just had so much fun.
And I need to add how beautiful they came out.”

This project is bringing awareness to the importance of keeping our streets and storm drains clean, for cleaner creeks and a cleaner Delaware River, our source of drinking water. This is a partnership among the Tookany/Tacony-Frankford Watershed Partnership (TTF), the Partnership for the Delaware Estuary, the City’s Office of the Managing Director, the Philadelphia Water Department and Clean PHL. Jay Coreano will put final touches and designs on the cans. We will notify neighbors when the cans are completed. Some will be placed on Cayuga Street, and others placed at small businesses in the neighborhood.
