Job Posting: Soak It Up Rain Garden Caretaker
Vernon Park, Germantown
Tookany/Tacony-Frankford Watershed Partnership
The Vernon Park Rain Garden Caretaker will work for the Tookany/Tacony-Frankford Watershed Partnership (TTF) looking after the Vernon Park rain garden, in front of the Center in the Park. This site has been adopted by TTF in partnership with the Friends of Vernon Park (FOVP), through the Soak It Up Adoption Program offered by the Philadelphia Water Department.
TTF’s job is to connect people to their creeks. Through education, stewardship, restoration, and advocacy, we work with our communities to improve our watershed. We invite you to be part of our team.
The Caretaker will:
- Visit the Vernon Park rain garden once a week, picking up and disposing of any litter within the garden and along the curbs and paths directly adjacent to the garden.
- Visually inspect and remove any debris or trash from the stormwater inlets or overflow structures, ensuring they will flow freely during rain.
- Communicate regularly with the Friends of Vernon Park and TTF staff regarding the care of the garden, the amount of trash picked up, and any concerns that need to be addressed. Work with the FOVP to submit an electronic form documenting how much trash was removed and the condition of the garden, inlets, and overflow features.
Necessary tools and personal safety equipment will be provided by TTF.
Terms of employment: This is a part-time position, up to 2 hours a week over the course of a year. This position does not provide benefits.
Rate: $15/hr, paid monthly subject to deductions for taxes and other withholding as required by law or TTF policies.
Start Date: Immediately
