Over 120 Mariana Bracetti Charter School fourth graders and teachers participated in a storm drain marking and clean-up event around the Tacony Creek Park gateway at Bingham & E. Ashdale Streets on September 23. The chilly weather didn’t put a damper on the day.
The students have been learning about watersheds in class and were very excited to see how they can protect their own watershed.
After a brief introduction, students were broken up into ten groups; five groups cleaned up the trail between Rising Sun Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard, and the other five groups marked storm drains along East Ashdale Street.
After the cleanup, students that had marked storm drains had the opportunity to walk the trail and explore Tacony Creek Park.
Students also played and enjoyed the card game AquaMarooned!, which explores nature in Tacony Creek Park using quick wit, physical activity, and creative invention.
The students marked 39 storm drains and collected 26 bags of trash!
Each student went home with animal stickers and a Seek and Find activity that’s part of our our River Alive! Learning Trail installation in Juniata Park.
