On November 10, 15 volunteers came out for a bare root tree planting with TTF and Germantown TreeTenders.  In total, eight trees were planted in East Germantown and East Mount Airy. Our second planting of the year, this brings our 2012 planting total to 20 trees.

Big thank you to our partner, the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS), as well as to our amazing volunteers – students Aliyah Patterson and Momana Jahan from Central High School. This tree planting was Aliyah Patterson’s fourth volunteer day with TTF. We look forward to continuing to work with Central students. We’d also like to thank Weavers Way Community Program for awarding us a grant for much needed tools.

Congrats and thanks to Vanessa Price, Block Captain of E. Mayland Street, who graduated from PHS Tree Tenders in October. She and her granddaughter, cousin, and Junior Block Captains planted two trees.

Thanks also to Bryner Chevrolet for lending us a truck – transporting the trees and planting supplies couldn’t have been easier!

The truck from Bryner Chevrolet helped TTF’s Alix Howard transport trees and tools to different sites.

We plant trees because they absorb and filter stormwater. The cleaner the water and the less of it that gets into our pipes, the healthier are our creeks.  For more reasons to plant trees, visit TTF’s tree page here.

TTF founded the Germantown Tree Tenders in 2010. Our goal was to inspire a community-driven tree tenders group. We’re very proud of their accomplishments and continued success.
