Last week, TTF hosted two screenings of Water Blues, Green Solutions, at the Juniata Golf Club in Philadelphia and The Towers at Wyncote in Cheltenham. We welcomed special guests at both locations: Maggie Wood of the Philadelphia Water Department (PWD) joined us in Juniata and Frank Christopher, the producer from Penn State Public Media, joined us in Cheltenham! Their presence made these events even more informative and exciting. We were also so pleased that the audience at each location included a number of young environmentalists.
Maggie, who is featured in the film, spoke about a PWD green infrastructure project that’s in the planning phase, which will be installed right around the corner at the Ferko Playground. Community residents in attendance were interested in learning more about this green feature coming to their neighorhood.
In Cheltenham, Sustainable Cheltenham/Environmental Advisory Council leaders Lorna Rosenberg and Barb Duffy, and Commissioner Ann Rappaport joined us, along with Representative Steve McCarter‘s staff (who were also so critical in helping us promote this screening: thank you!). We were also joined by Board President (and Abington EAC member) and sponsor Pennyslvania Environmental Council representative, Sue Myerov, as well as Jennifer Hendricks of Primex, also a sponsor. Township Manager Bryan Havir introduced the film. After the screening, an engaged group asked Frank a number of thoughtful questions including: “How can we make a difference in our watershed?”
For TTF, this film provides a tool to educate and engage watershed stewards. We want this to be the first step to working with you to take action to improve our watershed. We have many programs in which you can participate! We’re so honored that Frank Christopher shared this thought with us after the film: “You are doing inspirational work.”
