On Sunday April 9th, over 130 walkers and runners took to the Tacony Creek trail for the 5th Annual Healthy Trails 5k in Tacony Creek Park. Starting in front of Friends Hospital’s historic Scattergood Building, participants followed the course along the paved trail which winds down through the woods and along the creek. We were blessed with another beautiful spring day, the birds were singing and the weather could not have been nicer!
Thanks to all of the participants who registered for the run and donated to the Tookany/Tacony-Frankford Watershed Partnership (TTF). Proceeds from the run directly support our work in Tacony Creek Park, including the work of our Tacony Creek Park Trail Ambassadors. Thanks to all of the teams, (our largest being Olney Christian School – way to go OCS!) who registered and ran together and everyone who helped spread the word, and thanks to James Kennedy for participating on behalf of Congressman Brendan Boyle.
TTF would like to thank our event sponsors, Friends Hospital and the Scattergood Foundation for once again opening up their beautiful campus to the community, Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, the Managing Director’s Office and the Philadelphia Water Department for their support, PowerCorps PHL for their amazing help in cleaning and preparing the trail for race day and serving as your Course Marshalls, and the Latinas in Motion for helping sign everyone in at registration.
This event kicks off another spring and summer season of events in Tacony Creek Park, which include free bird walks, our monthly Wednesday morning nature walks, volunteer clean-up days in the park, our annual summer block parties and more!
Next on the calendar is our Spring bird walk on May 20, at Tabor Rd & Olney Ave. Click here for more information on upcoming events!
