Tacony Creek Park felt lots of love from volunteers this Fall!
¡Tacony Creek Park sintió mucho amor de los voluntarios este otoño!
On Love Your Park Day — Saturday, November 9th — 40 friends and neighbors gathered at the Whitaker Avenue and East Loudon Street Gateway to plant trees and remove trash along the park entrance, trail and guardrails.
En el Día de Love Your Park — sábado, 9 de noviembre — 40 amistades y vecinos se reunieron en la Avenida Whitaker y Calle E. Loudon para sembrar árboles y remover basura a lo largo de la entrada del parque, el sendero y las barandillas.
Thanks to everyone’s help, we collectively removed 50 bags of trash, 11 tires, a shopping cart and miscellaneous debris – all weighing in at 600 lbs! Not only was this trash unsightly and unwelcoming, but it can also end up in our waterways during heavy rains, polluting our creeks and the Delaware River, our source of drinking water!
¡Gracias a la ayuda de todos, colectivamente removimos 50 bolsas de basura, 11 gomas, un carrito de compras y escombros misceláneo – todo pesando un total de 600 lbs!
Esta basura no sólo fue desagradable, sino que también puede terminar en nuestros canales de agua durante las fuertes lluvias, contaminando nuestros arroyos y el Río Delaware, ¡nuestra fuente de agua potable!
We planted 5 American Elm trees along the trail with the help of PowerCorpsPHL. This new “Elm Allée” (a walkway lined with trees or tall shrubs) will provide much needed shade during the hot Summer months, and more habitat for birds in which to nest.
Nosotros sembramos 5 árboles “Olmos americanos” con la ayuda de PowerCorpsPHL. Este nuevo “Elm Allée” (una pasarela bordeada de árboles o arbustos altos) proveerá sombra necesaria durante los meses calurosos de verano y más hábitat para las aves en las que anidar.
We were so pleased that our partner V.U.R.T Creative joined us! These are the artists who created the beautiful bird murals beneath the Whitaker Ave bridge. They created a fun trivia game that tests your knowledge about the four birds that are painted. Did you know you can spot those birds in Tacony Creek Park?
