If you’ve ever had the pleasure of going on a bird walk with the folks at the Tookany/Tacony-Frankford Watershed Partnership (TTF for short) you’ve probably been handed a colorful little booklet: a Bird Guide to the TTF Watershed.
This bird guide is full of great tips on finding and identifying birds around the watershed, and includes a checklist of all the birds you might encounter and maps of the watershed and Tacony Creek Park.
Now, with support from a National Audubon Society Collaborative Grant and our local Wyncote Audubon Chapter, this Bird Guide to the TTF Watershed has been translated into Spanish!
Many of the community members living around Tacony Creek Park in Philadelphia are native Spanish speakers, and in recent years TTF has begun leading bilingual, English/Spanish bird walks along the trail. Bilingual programming has created a more welcoming space for families and community members to enjoy the park while learning more about the creek and how we can take care of it.
Muchos de los miembros de la comunidad que viven alrededor de Tacony Creek Park en Filadelfia son hablantes nativos de español, y en los últimos años TTF ha comenzado a liderar caminatas bilingües en inglés / español a lo largo del sendero. La programación bilingüe ha creado un espacio más acogedor para que las familias y los miembros de la comunidad disfruten del parque mientras aprenden más sobre el arroyo y cómo podemos cuidarlo.
President of Wyncote Audubon, Leigh Altadonna: “The spanish language bird guide is another example of the terrific partnership between the Wyncote Audubon Society and TTF. Our long association in support of education, workshops, Backyard Bird Habitat and Audubon Bird Town recognition, and riparian buffer projects continues. Wyncote Audubon looks forward to also sponsoring the Spanish language editions of Audubon Adventures for TTF and the students and families with which they work!”
