Our dedicated Philadelphia bird lovers came together on the morning of December 18 to participate in the 2021 Christmas Bird Count, and observed 35 species!
Our participants walked the entire 3.2-mile Tacony Creek Park trail and found the following 35 bird species:
Canada Goose, Mallard, Hooded Merganser, Rock Pigeon (Feral Pigeon), Mourning Dove, Ring-billed Gull, Great Blue Heron, Sharp-shinned Hawk, Bald Eagle, Red-shouldered Hawk, Red-tailed Hawk, Great Horned Owl, Belted Kingfisher, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Downy Woodpecker, Hairy Woodpecker, Blue Jay, American Crow, Crow sp., Golden-crowned Kinglet, White-breasted Nuthatch, Carolina Wren, European Starling, Northern Mockingbird, American Robin, House Sparrow, House Finch, American Goldfinch, Field Sparrow, Fox Sparrow, Dark-eyed Junco, White-throated Sparrow, Song Sparrow, Red-winged Blackbird, Northern Cardinal
It’s fun to see how many birds are thriving and active even in the cold winter weather!
