Organizational Background:

Riverfront North Partnership (RNP) seeks a Fishing Program Assistant to help administer and lead weekly fishing programs in parks along the Delaware River.

RNP is a nonprofit organization that works with the City of Philadelphia to build and activate the North Delaware River Greenway, a series eight parks and 11 miles of trail in Northeast Philadelphia, with the belief that every Philadelphian should have access to their rivers. We are gaining momentum as a neighborhood asset and regional destination, with the understanding that, as the greenway nears completion, our future depends on an engaged community and the highest standards of stewardship.

Position Overview:

Under the direct supervision of the Program Director, the Fishing Program Assistant will help administer and lead weekly fishing programs in parks along the Delaware River. This position is part-time, approximately 10 hours per week from April through October. Wages for this position are $18.00 an hour, plus mileage reimbursement for use of personal vehicle between work sites.

Riverfront North Partnership and Legacy, Land and Water Partners work together to provide over 30 fishing events each year at Pleasant Hill Park, Lardner’s Point Park, The Frankford Boat Launch, and at Kleinheinz Pond with Tookany/Tacony- Frankford Watershed Partnership (TTF). We also partner with Philadelphia Parks and Recreation to host fishing events for local recreation centers. These programs are welcoming thousands of community members – and a growing audience of Spanish-speaking residents – each year to learn about safe fishing in our local waterways. Because of this growing audience, bilingual Spanish-speaking skills is preferred (but not a requirement.)

Key Responsibilities:

The Fishing Program Assistant will be primarily responsible for:

  • Position will be responsible for providing fishing instruction, including but not limited to, teaching participants of all ages how to set up a rod, attach bait, cast and remove fish.
  • Must enforce safety procedures and teach safe fishing practices to all
  • Repair and maintain fishing
  • Set up and break down program equipment such as tables, rods, tackle boxes and more before and after each
  • Welcome each participant, document attendance, and collect contact information and liability

Background and Skills:

Successful candidates will demonstrate the following in their application:

  • Applicant should have experience fishing and knowledge of repairing and maintaining fishing equipment or past experience leading or assisting with community programs.
  • Good communication skills and ability to effectively and enthusiastically talk to children and adults
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from
  • Ability to work outside in inclement weather
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • Bilingual Spanish speaking skills desired but not

Schedule:

  • Position begins mid-April and continues through October
  • Approximately 10 hours per
  • Programs will occur every Thursday evening, occasional Tuesday evenings and some Saturday Mornings and
  • Specific terms regarding the schedule will be discussed on an individual basis but some flexibility
