Natasha intern

By TTF Intern, Natasha Ring

Hi everyone! My name is Natasha Ring, and I’m excited to join TTF as an intern this semester! I’m a junior at Bryn Mawr College where I am double majoring in Environmental Studies and Education. I’m interested in Environmental Education, and more specifically making Environmental Education more accessible.

Frog catching as a kid!

I’m from Connecticut, and the woods have always been a big part of my life since my house backs up to our Town Forest. I grew up exploring the woods on bikes and on foot with my siblings, building forts out of sticks and looking for spring peepers, a type of frog, in the pond. This love of the outdoors eventually led to me volunteering to research vernal pools at my local nature center, Woodcock Nature Center, in Spring 2020. I continued this work for Spring 2021 and Spring 2022, and during the summers I became a Counselor in Training at their summer camp and then, a few years later, as a camp counselor.

I have also volunteered with Project Limulus to tag Horseshoe Crabs in nearby Long Island Sound which was an amazing experience to learn more about the process of tagging animals. This past summer I also got an incredible opportunity to go to Freiburg, Germany where I interned with an organization that specializes in sustainability tours and education. I learned more about how to incorporate the local community through educating students about the dangers of plastic, along with more sustainable alternatives available in local businesses through one of the programs I assisted with.

Outside of this, I love to play field hockey (I am one of Bryn Mawr Field Hockey’s Captains). My team made it to the NCAA tournament this past season for the first season in program history which was an incredible experience! I also really enjoy cooking, hiking, kayaking, and running. I loved exploring lots of new hikes this summer during my time in Germany, one of my favorites was up Feldberg where you could see both Switzerland and France from the summit.

Hike to some medieval castles in Ribeauvillé, France this summer!

Here at TTF, I will primarily be assisting with communications. I’m really interested to learn more about how platforms like Instagram can be used to spread educational information, particularly information relevant to local communities, in a way that is easily understood. I’m also interested in learning more about how TTF works to build partnerships with communities, particularly local schools!
