I want you to close your eyes, and imagine being in a field of greenery. You hear a river flowing off to your side, music from way back being played in the distance.

If you open them, you’ll see community folk playing chess and cornhole, some chilling in the tree canopies with lawn chairs, others line dancing. You’ll see people enjoying free ice cream, kids getting their face painted, and laughter from everyone. Some cyclists will ride over the chalk mosaics along the pavement, and above all, you’ll see not one person without a smile on their face.

This imagery described, was exactly what Snake Rd Party looked like over the weekend.

Snake Rd Party was a moment to take in the transformation of the Newtown Ave section of Tacony Creek Park, also known as ‘Snake Rd’. Once a dumped site, is now a space of pride and joy for neighbors.

To celebrate this, community member Dallas Herbert asked us to help him by creating an event to come together in solidarity, civic action, and joy, and we delivered. On top of this, we really wanted to make this event special, because it was also Herbert’s birthday! So why not give an event worth thinking back on?

In the heart of this bustling urban neighborhood, our park celebration brought people and wildlife together, with ducklings, snakes, and community members all enjoying the beautiful weather.

We want to thank 215 People’s Alliance, Trash Academy, DJ Flipp, Tierra Colombiana, J-Dogs, the local Mr. Softee ice cream truck, and others for helping make this all happen. We couldn’t have done it without you.

Make sure to stop by Snake Rd and take in the scenery, and happy birthday Dallas!
